Stacy weaved through the crowd in front of her. Paying attention to nothing except her shuffling feet and the people in her way, she jumped slightly when she heard a greeting come from behind her. She turned to see Mickey and Gloria, both of whom were standing in front of the middle school for no good reason whatsoever. No reason that she could see, anyway.

Regardless, she gave a friendly wave and the sweetest smile she could manage. That smile soured quickly when she turned to see that her sister had come to a full stop in front of their senior bandmates. She realized, with one look at her wristwatch, that if Renee didn’t speed up, she’d manage to make everyone late. But Renee could not be reckoned with. Stacy knew that; because when Renee got that weird glitter in her eye, she became an absolute force of nature.

“Hey, you two!” Rene exclaimed in semi-faked surprise. Mickey and Gloria both gave half-smiles and flippant waves.

“Hi, Renee.” Gloria muttered. “How are you?”

“Oh, me? Wonderful! It’s a marvelous day!” Renee beamed, with a terrible grin that obviously made Mickey and Gloria quite uncomfortable. Stacy rolled her eyes silently as she waited for Renee’s next statement. “I assume I'll have to take Gloria with us, since Mickey better be off to high school.” Renee dictated, grabbing Gloria's hand.

“Oh, yeah. Just forgot, I guess.” Mickey mumbled. “I guess I'll see you guys at practice, tonight?” He asked with a smile. Gloria turned around where she stood, by Renee and slightly ahead of Stacy, and gave a thumbs-up and smile before she walked off. Mickey smiled and waved, walking off into his own direction.

“So what was that all about?” The Kid inquired, almost magically appearing between Gloria and Renee. Renee stopped and looked ahead at Gloria.

“Oh, nothing.” Sighed Renee, dreamily. “Just doing some matchmaking for an entirely oblivious couple. Excuse me, Kid.” She heaved, pushing her way back in front beside Gloria. The Kid turned to Stacy, and they rolled their eyes dramatically behind Renee's back.

The Kid and Stacy began to walk by and eventually past Renee, who kept glancing back and forth between Mickey and Gloria, sighing quietly each time.

“My gosh, can she be any more obvious?” The Kid asked, his voice dripping with sarcasm as he crossed his arms over his chest.

“Definitely. You don’t know the depths of Renee’s determination.” Stacy explained, crossing her arms in a similar fashion.

“But I thought you were only supposed to get giddy about love and junk when you were a teenager. Right?” The Kid asked, turning to Stacy. She shrugged.

“How am I supposed to know?” Stacy inquired with a glare. It was the Kid’s turn to shrug. He looked into the distance and back at Stacy with a smile.

“Hey Stace?” He questioned. Stacy once again directed her attention to her companion, nodding.

“Let's make a pact that we'll never fall in love with anyone.” The Kid declared, holding out his hand for a handshake.

Stacy turned around and looked at Renee, now far behind her, who walked at a slow pace beside Gloria with a faint smile on her face. “Perfect.” She remarked, sealing the pact properly with a handshake.
